THAI YOGA bodywork is a unique and highly effective form of body therapy originating in ancient Thailand and rooted in the therapeutic traditions of India and China. It combines myofascial stretching, joint mobilization, acupressure, energy balancing, rhythmic deep tissue compression, soft tissue manipulation, assisted yoga asana, and meditative breathing techniques.

Thai yoga bodywork is performed on a thick floor mat or futon with the receiver dressed in comfortable loose clothing.

In Thai yoga bodywork—sometimes referred to as “lazy person's yoga”—the practitioner places and holds the receiver in a series of yoga poses. The receiver is essentially passive, except to follow the guided breathwork. Prior experience with yoga is not required!

Using soothing rhythmic movement, joints are opened, muscles and tendons stretched, internal organs toned, and overall vitality increased. Thai yoga bodywork brings about a deep state of relaxation, rejuvenation and well-being.

Of special interest to bodyworkers, therapists, yoga teachers, martial and healing artists, and healthcare, fitness and movement professionals, Thai yoga bodywork can be enjoyed by anyone, with some adaptations for physical sensitivities and body type.

At Boston Thai Yoga we hold true to the traditional form while incorporating techniques and perspectives both from Shiatsu and from Western biomechanics to enhance the transformational experience.
